5 BEST PR SKILLS
I went to god Google and find exactly what are these five best PR skills and came back with some real gems that can be very useful for all of us.
1. Creativity starts with curios mind-set, without curiosity there cannot be creativity. People who are curious make unexpected connection because they are open, alert, and plugged in. Steve jobs, once said “creativity is just connecting things. When you ask people who creative how they did something, they feel a little guilty because they didn’t really do it, they just saw something and connect experiences they have had and synthesize new things. Creativity in PR requires one to be keen observer and constantly look for clues or idea-starters.
2. Writing, you can’t beat the need for excellent, persuasive, grammatically correct writing, one has to embrace it in order to be successful. These are easy five steps to improve if you aren’t confident in your writing: practice self-editing, use subject plus verb sentence construction, avoid passive voice, watch out for over capitalisation and learn and love style guide.
3. Verbosity and Simplicity: The ability to communicate in grand ways and on simple terms is a must. If you’re not comfortable speaking to an audience of white-collar executives as well as to an audience of blue-collar hourly-wage earners, you won’t be able to do this job.
4. Internet-Enabled: PR takes an immense amount of research, and PR people who don’t understand tools such as blogs, search engines, and premium search services suffer the consequences. Knowing how to find Google or Technorati is not enough – you need to understand how to utilize these resources as well.
5. Multi-Tasking: I don’t mean the ability to talk on the phone and play solitaire. If you can’t pitch the media, pitch prospective clients, take part in crisis-control initiatives, and help clients formulate a strategy beyond PR, then you’re in the wrong game. Specialty PR is fine if you’re proven in the field, but a well-rounded PR person can handle everything from sales to client handholding.
